The Intentions of Honesty, Kindness and Perseverance

2021

I composed, arranged and produced a 35-minute-long modern chamber jazz suite. In the process I gained a better understanding of my creative workflow, an appreciation for people, as well as a deeper understanding of art and what expression through art is. I realized how much I can learn by putting myself in unknown situations, how motivating and helpful deadlines are, the importance of budgeting extra time, following instincts, trusting others, narrowing my focus and documenting the process.

Through this project, I wanted to genuinely express the values of kindness, honesty and perseverance and document the impact of these values on my personality, aspirations and achievements. This project embraced the format of a musical thank you letter to everyone who has influenced my life thus far. To express the values musically, I amalgamated my love of rhythm, melody and timbre in a composed suite of music. Part of my vision for this project is to show my interest in helping others and to encourage society to seek out the confidence within to stand-up for themselves and for those around them. I hope to encourage people to believe in themselves and to bravely face obstacles in order to overcome them.

I would like to thank Brandon Atwell, Chaitanya Natu, Guillermo Montalvan, Kris Ramakrishna, Marco Pisani, Mateo Falgas, Melanie Letra-Frade, Miquel Alvarez, Nina Nicolaiewsky, Rodrigo Branco and Federico Nathan for helping me with this project. To my family, thank you for always supporting me.

"Community. Goodness. Dignity. Honesty. Kindness. Perseverance. Each may be singled out into different movements, but, to get the full effect, they must come as a package. And it is similar with The Intentions of Honesty, Kindness and Perseverance. The album must be listened to as a whole."
