Tetyana Haraschuk
Composer and drummer Tetyana Haraschuk is an original. Her commitment to values including hard work and kindness combine with her natural sensitivity and gift for storytelling and come through in her music - intricately textured, rhythmically detailed, incorporating moods ranging from delicate to aggressive, and always deeply felt. Born in Ukraine to Ukrainian and Cuban parents and educated at the University of Manitoba and Berklee College of Music, Tetyana has independently released an album, EP, and two singles of original music, as well as played with her trio in countries including Spain and Brazil, written commissioned works for the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra, among others, and served as sessional instructor of jazz drumset at the University of Manitoba. Her latest role, as artistic director and composer of the project Until The Sun Comes, is a true labour of love, drawing on personal interviews with individuals directly affected by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Until The Sun Comes is a musical documentation of Ukrainian war stories, made in collaboration with Winnipeg-based Ice River Films and their production of the documentary Voices of Freedom.
